Kami menyebutkan menit kemudian Jam
Kami menggunakan jam jika waktu yang tepat


06:00  it is six o’clock. Jam 6 
06:10  it is ten (minutes) past six. Jam 6 lebih 10 menit
06:15  it is fifteen (minutes) past six. jam 6 lebih 15
        it is quarter past six
06:30         it is thirty (minutes) past six
        it is half past six

For more then “thirty” we can use either “past” or “to”. But “to” is more used then the following o’clock.
Untuk lebih "tiga puluh" kita dapat menggunakan salah "masa lalu" atau "to". Tapi "untuk" lebih digunakan maka jam berikut.

06:40    it is forty past six. (British)
            it is six forty. (American)
            it is twenty (minutes) to seven. Jam 7 kurang 20 menit (British)

Past Continuous Tense



                Past Continuous Tense menyatakan  peristiwa atau perbuatan yang sedang berlangsung pada waktu lampau pada saat peristiwa yang lain  terjadi atau perbuatan yang lain dilakukan.

 Past Continuous Tense digunakan untuk  :
 1.Digunakan  ketika sedang melaksanakan perbuatan dimasa lampau.
  E.g :    He was watching television at 9 o’clock last night
              ( Dia sedang  nonton Tv pada pkl  9 tadi malam ) 
      
 2. Digunakan untuk menyatakan sesuatu kejadian yang sedang berlangsung di masa lampau ketika suatu kejadian lain terjadi atau kedua duanya di waktu lampau.
  E.g : I was sleeping when you phoned me last night
           ( Saya sedang tidur ketika kamu menelpon saya tadi malam )
           I was eating while you were swimming
           ( Saya sedang makan sementara kamu sedang berenang )

Past Perfect Tense



A. Past  perfect  tense  menerangkan  suatu  perbuatan  yang   telah selesai  dilakukan  pada  waktu  lampau, atau  menjelaskan  dua  peristiwa  yang  telah  teradi   tetapi  menegaskan  perisiwa mana  yang  lebih  dahulu  terjadi.

B. Kegunaan  past  perfect  tense

  • Untuk  menyatakan  suatu  peristiwa  yang  lebih dahulu dari pada aktifitas yang lain.
  • Digunakan  untuk menyatakan suatu perbuatan yang sudah dimulai sejak  dahulu dan dilanjutkan  sehingga saat tertentu atau baru saja berakhir  diwaktu lampau.
  • Digunakan  untuk  menjawab  pertanyaan yang telah diajukan dalam bentuk pasten.

Keterangan waktu (time signal)
After              = sesudah
As soon as    = segera  setelah
Before           = sebelum
When            = ketika,  etc.

CATATAN
Jika  urutan waktu terjadinya peristiwa itu sudah jelas, tanpa menggunakan  perbedaan tense (past  tense and past perfect tense); maka untuk menyatakan  peristiwa- peristiwa tersebut  dapat menggunakan past tense and past tense (tanpa perbedaan tense), dan  biasanya  kata penghubung yang dipakai adalah before

Gerund

Secara sederhana gerund merupakan kata kerja berakhiran –ing yang berfungsi sebagai kata benda. Karena sebagai kata benda maka fungsinya disamakan seperti noun.`pada umumnya yaitu sebagai subject, object, adverb, head, modifier, dan Prohibition.

Fungsi Gerund :

1. Subject (pelaku)
Ex : reading english is easier than speaking it.
       Coming late is bad attitude
2. Object Complement ( pelengkap )
Ex; my favorite sport is playing badminton
      this hope is meeting his mother
3. After Certain Verb ( setelah kata kerja tertentu)
